Chicken Chettinad

This is a famous dish from the Spicy Chettinad Cuisine.Tender chicken cooked in exotic spices will surely make your sunday brunch all the more special!!



Ingredients:

For Marinade:
400 gm chicken cut into pieces,
1 cup hung curd,
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste,
1 tbsp chilli-coriander paste,
salt,red chilli,turmeric and black pepper to taste,
1/2 tsp garam masala,
1/2 tsp chaat masala

For Gravy:
3 medium sized onions finely chopped,
1 large tomato finely chopped,
2 green chillies chopped,
1 tbsp red chilly powder,
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste,
1tsp garam masala,
4 tbsp oil,
1 tsp mustard seeds,
5-6 curry leaves,
a pinch of asafoetida,
salt and black pepper powder to taste

Method:
1.Mix all the ingredients for the marinade and add chicken. Refrigerate overnight for best results but if time does not permit refrigerate for min 1 hour.
2. Heat oil in a vessel. Add mustard seeds,green chillies and  curry leaves. Add chopped onions and saute till the onions turn brown.
3.Add chopped tomatoes. Add ginger-garlic paste,garam masala,red chilli powder, Salt and pepper powder. Saute till the oil separates.
4. Add marinated chicken, 2-3 cups of water and cook on medium floor till the chicken turns soft and tender.
5. Garnish with chopped coriander.
6. Serve hot with roti,naan or rice.

Note: You may also choose to grind the cooked onions and tomato into paste if you prefer smooth texture for the masala gravy.
